13 Songs, 52 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

On her ninth album, Patty Griffin takes a left turn, incorporating bracing jazz and blues influences into her trademark contemporary folk sound. Griffin’s weathered voice is still central: Country tones seep into her melodies, and she expertly crafts poetic turns of phrase—particularly on “250,000 Miles,” a shattering exploration of maternal grief. But syncopated rhythms enliven tracks like “Gunpowder” and “There Isn’t One Way,” while “Noble Ground” boasts a raunchy blues swagger that’s wholly captivating.

An Easy Purchase

I have everything Patty has produced. I saw this pre-release and instantly hit the Pre-Order. Thank you for providing endless hours of bliss Patty! Can’t wait to hear the whole disc. 5 Stars for the first two songs…. Was hoping to not have to rate it as I think its silly to do so without listening to the whole thing. I can’t imagine it being anything less than 5 though…. Patty is a national treasure!

It’s Patty? I’ll buy it. Simple.

There are very few artists who get my “must buy it immediately” seal of approval, but Patty Griffin is one of them. Her songwriting is powerful, personal, and absolutely poetic. This new music can’t be released soon enough for me!

Back to the best....

First let me say I am a huge Patty fan, and she could sign just about anything and I would buy it. That being said, her last 2 albums have been just "so so" in my opinion, at least compared to the 6 before those. Now she is back with her 10th studio album and OMG what an album it is. To me it is very reminiscent of "Children Running Through" or "Impossible Dream". If you like those two, you will like this album. To any hard core Patty fans.... wow, omg, holy crap. She is back to the best with this one.
