“The late afternoon winds blow across the prairie, blowing dust and flattening the tall dry grasses,” audio naturalist Martyn Stewart says of this immersive field recording of the sounds of the Serengeti in Tanzania. “In the shelter of the trees close to me are insects and the faint songs of birds. It is 3:00 pm. From where I sit recording, the plains are full of mammals, mostly wildebeest grazing as they flick their ears side to side. I love the sounds of the winds; it gives me a sense of space as I’m consumed in the vastness of the Serengeti.”
