Sensations

Sensations

The much-anticipated follow-up to Intuition (2018) and Emotions (2020), Sensations is a cherishable collection of 20 pieces from cellist extraordinaire Gautier Capuçon, working alongside regular arranger and pianist Jérôme Ducros. Remarkably, Capuçon sounds every bit as compelling in Arlen’s “Over the Rainbow” and Legrand’s “Windmills of Your Mind” as he does in Barber’s Adagio. All but six tracks feature brilliant young maestro Johanna Malangré conducting the Orchestre National de Bretagne. Along the way, we also encounter Egyptian soprano sensation Fatma Said soaring aloft in the Aria from Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas brasileiras No. 5, trumpet virtuoso Lucienne Renaudin Vary in the laidback swing of Bert Kaempfert’s “L-O-V-E,” and Capucelli, an ensemble made up of six of Capuçon’s starry cello students, who go down a storm in Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King” from Peer Gynt and Bernstein’s “Mambo” from West Side Story.
