EDITORS’ NOTES

Both longstanding fixtures in the indie-rap circuit, LMNO (from Long Beach, down with the Visionaries) and Kev Brown (repping D.C. and the Low Budget crew), reunite as "James Brown," for a sequel to their 2008 collaboration. Produced entirely by Kev, it flips and chops many old joints from the late, great Godfather of Soul, reworking them enough to maintain the funkiness but still create something entirely new. The lyricism isn't particularly earth shattering, but their interplay and chemistry on the mic are impossible to hate on. Ideal for fans of West Coast indie-rap (think Stones Throw, Mystik Journeymen, Dilated Peoples), this is straight feel-good boom-bap with no time for gangsta posturing or pre-set synth beats. Cameos come from Declaime, Chali 2Na, Kenn Starr, and others; check out "We Stay Rockin," "Do It Again," and "Guaranteed."
