EDITORS’ NOTES

Marc Broussard's 2007 collection of classic R&B covers, S.O.S.: Save Our Soul, was a commercial breakthrough for the Louisiana singer, and nearly a decade later, he returns with another batch of timeless '50s and '60s gems. His acoustic duet of Solomon Burke's "Cry To Me" with his father (Boogie Kings guitarist Ted Broussard) is a restrained moment of beauty, but Soul on a Mission largely finds Broussard throwing himself into dramatic soul shouters, like Sam & Dave's "Hold On, I'm Comin'."
