Another impressive release from Kisor

Ryan Kisor has been recognized the world over as a unique talent on the trumpet ever since he won the Thelonious Monk Competition as a teenager. His style is firmly rooted in the hard bop tradition of his forebears - Freddie Hubbard and Clifford Brown are obvious influences (as they are for nearly ever trumpeter of his generation), as are later performers like Woody Shaw. A technical master, Kisor uses this live date to express himself as an improvisational and compositional heavyweight. In the comfortable company of a band of musicians that in whole or in part have been steady collaborators during Kisor's many years in the Lincoln Center scene, this quintet side is a powerful representation of the high quality still present in New York City Jazz, especially at clubs like Smalls.
