EDITORS’ NOTES

Toto’s GRAMMY®-winning album shot the band of top session cats into the pop stratosphere, selling a gazillion copies on the strength of massive hits such as the now-classic “Rosanna” and the soft adult pop of “Africa.” There are also FM-styled guitar-keyboard rockers (“Afraid of Love,” “We Made It,” “Lover in the Night”), a jazzy romp (“Waiting for Your Love”), a piano-bar ballad (“I Won’t Hold You Back”), and a soothing, Jacuzzi-worthy ditty (“It’s a Feeling”). The multitextured set is so evenly produced and thoroughly wrought that every nuanced note feels perfectly placed. It’s a remarkable musical feat.

Toto's best album of their first 4!!! Ahead of it's time in 1982!!!

Toto's most popular album, amoung the media, worthy of all the praise & gold it won at the Grammy Awards that year!!!! This is Toto's polished sound at it's peak! "Rosanna" was ahead of it's time with a beautiful keyboard solo, and guitar/horn section at the end... It also has a good rocking song "Lovers In the NIght, that highlights Steve Lukather's immense talent as a guitar player, in my opinion, anyway! I think "I Won't Hold You Back," Highlight's Luke's talent as a singer! What more can I say? This wonderful piece of ear candy really speaks for itself!!!

Africa was not Toto

To all you younger Toto fans,
Africa was not their only hit off Toto iV. Rosanna was their biggest hit off of this album and the only reason why Africa was even a hit was because it piggybacked on Rosanna. Africa had good themes- 'I bless the rains down in Africa" which related to the extreme droughts and starvation in Africa with many Africans dying when that song was released. The lyrics were too repetitive as was the instrumental parts. The biggest songs other than Africa on this Album were Rosanna, I Won't Hold You Back, Waiting For Your Love, and Make Believe. After that album, they had a hit in 1986 with I'll Be Over You. But I look to some of their older hits that really defined them: Hold The Line, I'll Supply the Love, Without Your Love, 99, Pamela. Those are the songs that drew me to Toto and made me a fan of theirs. My favorites off of this album was Rosanna, I Won't Hold You Back Waiting For Your Love, and Make Believe. I also love "I'll Be Over You." Survivor had some good and bad songs, but Asia was great! But you can't consider Toto strictly as an 80's group as they got their start in 1978 with Hold the Line and I'll Supply The Love.
