After disbanding nearly two decades ago, 6 String Drag reform to deliver a vigorous set full of the droll wit, wistful nostalgia, and lean, primal sounds that made them favorites among their alt-country peers. The Raleigh, N.C.–based quartet spice up Roots Rock ‘N’ Roll with yearning teenage ballads (“Drive Around Town”), playful rockabilly tunes (“Kingdom of Gettin’ It Wrong”), steamy blues workouts (“Choppin’ Block”), and slide guitar–accented shuffles (“Sylvia”). Frontman Kenny Roby’s nonchalant yet spot-on vocals and the group's natural chemistry give the album the feel (and sound) of a labor of love.
