A solid EP

When I heard Richie and Orianthi were making music together, I was quite sure what the result would be. I love them both as solo acts and I loved Richie as part of Bon Jovi. If this EP is indicative of what a full album will be like, we're in for a fun ride! The EP is a bit eclectic. Rise is pure rock anthem. Masterpiece is adult contemporary pop with a lot of soul. Orianthi's vocals exude emotion and Richie sounds so good. When they sing together, it's perfection. Truth is a love song with a beautiful piano opening. Take Me is all Richie on lead vocals and has the feel of driving at night. His voice had a bluesy quality to it but I wouldn't call the song bluesy. The guitar solo is reminiscent of Spanish guitar. The final track is Good Times. It's a fun track with a bit of a country feel but it is weakened by the guest vocal which is a reggae sounding rap. The song really didn't need that interlude but maybe it will grow on me after repeated playing. The song outside of the interlude is good.

There's no denying these two are excellent guitar players and it comes through on these songs. Both are excellent vocalists and their voices and styles blend well together. I'm excited to see what else they put out as they've said they have 25 songs recorded. I feel like they really are bringing out the best in each other musically.

Shame on me for not previewing the tracks, because if I had I wouldn't have downloaded this one. What I expected and what I got were worlds apart. I expected some fiery guitar playing from RS and Ori. What I got was as disappointing as the last several Bon Jovi records. They're not bad...they're just bland. I seem to be in the minority though, because most reviews have been good. This just isn't for me.
