EDITORS’ NOTES

Moody, enigmatic R&B from a Nigeria-born singer-songwriter. The second in a planned trilogy after 2014’s equally unusual Before the Fall EP, Restless Mind recalls everything from the bass-heavy abstractions of FKA Twigs (“Out of Touch”) to the darker moods of Rihanna (“Never Enough”) and the queen of the surrealistic seduction, Sade (“Days Fast Forward”). But most interesting might be the plaintive, album-closing “Flatline,” which is at once rock-solid and featherlight—a sound Oyinda could claim as her own.
