August Burns Red have always strived to push the limits of Christian metalcore, but Rescue & Restore may be the band’s most ambitious statement. While there's no shortage of fiery riffs ("Animals") or crushing tempos ("Provision"), the group tackle new sounds as well, such as on "Spirit Breaker," which features a spoken-word bridge from Jake Luhrs about the drudging weariness of life on the road. Meanwhile, the ‘80s metal maelstrom "Beauty in Tragedy” memorializes the passing of a friend with an agonized, stripped-down bridge.
