In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Elvis Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis, Sony-Legacy presents this expanded legacy edition of the complete concert at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis on March 20, 1974. It features songs left off the original album and a complete remix and remaster of the tapes. In addition, a recording of Elvis’ complete concert “test run” at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va., on March 18, 1974, was recently located; it was found to be in mono and dubbed with the reverb that Elvis preferred. The bonus material concludes with five tracks cut at RCA Studios in Hollywood on Aug. 16, 1974, which had been intended as reference recordings for his upcoming Las Vegas performances where he was to perform these new songs. Despite Presley’s higher concert profile in the '70s, the original 1974 Memphis recordings were his homecoming; he hadn't performed there since 1961. This appears to have lit a fire under Presley, since he and his band are clearly playing with serious intention.
