10 Songs, 53 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Alice In Chains, the 10-time GRAMMY®-nominated grunge icons, return with a sixth album of bluesy psychedelia and crunchy hard rock. Group founder Jerry Cantrell and co-lead singer William DuVall’s vocal melodies set the band apart, whether yearning over the throbbing metal of “Red Giant” or exploring their insecurities on the grunge throwback opener “The One You Know”. Decades after their ‘90s peak, Alice In Chains continue to mine a sound they pioneered without sacrificing the freshness and originality that makes their work distinct.

Crazy good

Only two singles have been released and both have such a sinister and dark Alice In Chains feel that’s draw people to their music. Can’t wait for the full album to be released I can tell it’s gonna be a banger already.

Duh, 5 stars...

Never disappoints, always know you’re gonna get chungy guitars, great harmonies, and music you can feel. AIC has been my favorite band since I was 10 years old, even without Layne, R.I.P. sir, they absolutely kill it with every album. Keep em comin!!

Boring

I know this will be contrary to many other ratings, but I really want to like this album. Heck, I have wanted to like the last couple of AIC albums, but the music is boring and repetitive. Jerry seems to just see what kind of weird/unique sound he can make with a bend or a whatever. The songs feel forced and really drag. There is no life to them whatsoever. Sure, I loved AIC when Layne was alive, and I have wanted to give Jerry's versions of AIC the benefit of the doubt since, but the songs are really boring and musically uninspiring. The vocals are lacking as well. Not to say that Duval is a bad singer, but he just doesn't really add much to these songs. His voice is too much like Jerry's. One of the cool things about Jerry and Layne's vocals is that they were different enough to really complement each other well. Jerry's and Duval's really don't complement each other. They just drone on. I hope the rest of the album is better than the first two songs, but I have my doubts at this point. Like I said, I REALLY want to like an AIC album again. Jerry just needs to write better songs.
