35 Songs, 3 Hours 18 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Purple Rain—both the semiautobiographical No. 1 film and its No. 1 soundtrack—marks the moment that Prince became Prince, the most complex pop mastermind of his generation. After inviting his “dearly beloved” to the opening frenzy of “Let’s Go Crazy,” he leads us on a synth-driven, psychosexual odyssey that never lets up. Hits like “When Doves Cry” and the soulful title ballad (which was intentionally modeled after the stadium-filling anthems of Journey and Bob Seger) became pop monuments. But the more eclectic moments—like the menacing fantasy of “Darling Nikki” and the pleading desperation of “Baby I’m a Star”—give shape to this wildly adventurous and irrepressibly freaky masterpiece.

The deluxe expanded edition includes the 2015 Paisley Park remaster of the original soundtrack overseen by Prince himself, 11 previously unreleased tracks from the vault, plus single edits, extended versions, and B-sides.

The Greatest Album Ever!!

Let me be the first to write a review about an album that changed the world of music. Not only is the album complete, but this includes many songs that any true Prince fan has hear in bootleg versions. After waiting over 30 years, we now get to hear these in excellent quality. I must admit, more could have been included but I can't complaint about this configuration. There is even one or two that I've never heard from the Purple Rain period that were included here. Ok now that the vaults are open, let's hear all of the music that he recorded for the original Crystal Ball.

Bittersweet

Too bad Prince isn't still here to reap the benefits financially of the album that made him a superstar. It was his life's mission to finally own his Master recordings so he can receive his rightful cut of earnings.

Prince transitioned at peace knowing that he owned them and was FINALLY carefree.

No other artist went this long without being re-mastered. Now suspiciously it's out after his transition into the afterworld.

Sex Shooter?

I was hoping to also get as a bonus an remastered version of Sex Shooter from Apollonia 6.
