“I felt a sense of gratitude when I thought of how well the LGBTQ+ community has accepted and supported me throughout my journey,” Detroit veteran DJ Minx tells Apple Music of the joyous mix she created for Global Pride Month. Crafted at her in-house studio, the only-on-Apple Music mix spans all kinds of house music, created by all kinds of people: “Gay and straight; brown, Black, and white; from the East Coast to the West and beyond,” she says. “This is a celebration for those that are here, as well as individuals that have left us.” Spinning since the early ’90s, Minx formed the Women on Wax collective years later, with a goal of preserving Detroit’s electronic music scene for generations to come. That same spirit propels her connection to Pride and the entire LGBTQ+ community. “Whatever you choose to do in life, mean it and make it happen,” says Minx, who’s looking forward to celebrating during Motor City Pride in Detroit. “You are seen, heard, and loved.” With that message in mind, she singles out the 2019 cut “Force” from Polish duo Catz ’N Dogz on her mix, which pairs empowering lyrics with a driving pulse. “It’s a soundtrack for so many of us,” she says. “Not only is the production on point, but the vocals drive this one over the top. Know it: You are better than anything out here!”
