The hues of Joep Beving’s Prehension are stark grays, beiges, and blacks; however, the piece retains a spectrum full of hope and color. Melancholy chords ring out in “Ab Ovo,” a lamenting melody appearing gracefully above. These challenging, minimalist songs say huge amounts with very little material, encouraging introspection and, hopefully, change.
