Good listening...

Tom Harrell continues to impress with his ever-more consise trumpet playing. This is a solid set with a post-bop sensibility and an adventerous spirit reminiscent of Wayne Shorter's 1960's Blue Note records. Lots of thematic improvisation and a mellowness that is never boring.

Good Stuff All The Time

Good sounding modern jazz from Tom and his quintet. All players are accomplished musicians. Tom Escoffery is a great tenor player in the style of Joe Henderson. Danny Grisset plays on Fender Rhodes on some of the tunes and it is a nice change of pace. Does not sound like fusion although I prefer the acoustic piano. Tunes are laid back and just roll along. Tom takes great solos on all of the tunes. You can’t go wrong with any of his albums and this quintet made several with Tom and they are all good. He writes all of the tunes also. A solid effort and worth downloading.
