EDITORS’ NOTES

Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr never looked back after his iconic group broke up. He continued to play guitar in a variety of bands and finally surprised everyone when he released his first official solo album: 2013’s critically acclaimed The Messenger. Touring tightened his backing group, and Marr again went into the studio with producer/keyboardist Doviak. Here, Marr and Co. bash out a high-energy set that highlights Marr’s bright guitar work and his underrated songwriting sense. (It wasn’t all Morrissey, folks.) The opening three tracks scream for hit status, while “Candidate” and “This Tension” allow rare glimpses into the group’s tender side.

Amazing

I knew it would be good, but I didn't expect this!!! Wow, every song stands on its own. Great work!!!!

Love it!

Such a great record. There is something here for everyone. As along time Smiths fan, this doesn't disappoint. I love the newer sounding songs like 25 Hours and Back In The Box but, my favorites are the Smith-ier sounding Candidate, The Trap and the incredible This Tension. This Tension might be the best thing Johnny's done in a very long time.

Nice follow up to The Messenger

Brill work from Johnny Marr pop music wunderkind. Enormous admiration for him that he’s not taken the easy road back to The Smiths style. He realizes those times and music are passé. His new music is fresh and original, and there’s no looking back anymore.
