21 Songs, 1 Hour 16 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Benny Andersson, the creative force behind ABBA, is also a fine pianist, as can be heard on many of the band’s hits. Here, Andersson has adapted 21 songs from his ABBA albums and musicals for solo piano. It’s a testament to his composing skill that they work as beautiful miniatures—“Thank You for the Music” gains a music-hall charm, while there’s a hint of wistful Chopin in “The Day Before You Came”. The lesser-known “Midnattsdans” is a gorgeous evocation of an 18th-century waltz. But these pieces still have their ABBA composer’s DNA of strong melodies and seductive harmonies.
