EDITORS’ NOTES
It’s easy to forget that the hugely talented Lang Lang was once a beginner. Piano Book takes him back to pieces that first inspired him to become a musician. Many listeners might recognize music from their own piano journey, from Beethoven’s “Für Elise” to Chopin’s “Raindrop” Prelude and Bach’s Minuet No. 1 in G Major. But there are less familiar pieces here, too—wonderful additions to anyone’s repertoire, and within the grasp of most players. Yann Tiersen’s waltz from the film Amélie is one such, Max Richter’s The Departure another. Whether you’re a budding student, an adult learner, or simply passionate about piano music, Piano Book is utterly charming.
