EDITORS’ NOTES

There are times during St. Lucia’s big, bright synth-pop debut that you might think that the ‘80s never ended. Channeling the old guard (Phil Collins, Van Halen, the Thompson Twins, and Flock of Seagulls) alongside young contemporaries (fun., M83 and Passion Pit), Matter is the kind of album that manages to tap into the past while remaining firmly in the present—from the sleek, Prince-like funk of “Home” to the breast-beating “Help Me Run Away,” co-written with fun.’s Jack Antonoff.

Waiting...

Dancing on glass is great! But, physical sounds very simple & basic, somewhat annoying. I'm hoping and waiting for the rest of the album to follow after dancing on glass.

3 Stars is generous.

Let me preface by saying I love these guys and love their energy and hope they keep making music. That being said. I'm extremely underwhelmed by this album. Their debut album is one of my favorite albums in many years. Front to back great original and sometimes edgy and thought provoking and deep sometimes dark songs and sometimes just plain fun songs. This one is bland and repetitive and not any of those things that I've smashed into my ear holes over the last two years. I bought 3 songs. Dancing on glass, winds of change, and love somebody. Ready for the next album :/.
