16 Songs, 45 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

The R&B singer drops her guard for a powerful blend of the personal and political. Made with a close-knit team (mostly her, her husband Swizz Beats, and producer/songwriters Mark Batson and Harold Lilly), HERE shifts deftly from songs about the black experience (“The Gospel”) and societal strife (“Holy War”) to explorations of femininity (“Girl Can’t Be Herself”) and motherhood (“Blended Family”). It’s an album that taps the rich vein of soul and hip-hop that Keys has been working in for 15 years. And like all her best songs—“No One,” “Girl on Fire,” “Falling”—HERE's highlights end up being showcases for Keys’ voice, which conveys uplift and catharsis even in the most dire of circumstances: Just listen to her redeem the heartbroken addict on “Illusion of Bliss.”

Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics. Mastered for iTunes

What happened to "In Common" it didn't make the cut. I don't see that song on the CD?

Meh..

I enjoyed about 5/16 and I'm a huge fan.i just couldn't vibe to the entire feel on the album..I've been patiently waiting for another "Dairy of even a minor"..I feel like that ship has sailed and she's went into another direction.I love that her songs have a meaning and she is a true blue artist and I respect her for that.. Alicia remains one of my favorites but I miss the SOUL when she used to SANGG "how come you don't call me" ..If I ain't got you..I understand artists grow but she's just grown in a direction that I can't vibe with without skipping through more than half the album..
