EDITORS’ NOTES

Shaw’s ambitious Partita is a postmodern, polyphonic fantasia of sound and text. Reminiscent of Philip Glass’ contemporary masterpiece Einstein on the Beach, Shaw’s prismatic work—a winner of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in Music—derives its power from her juxtaposition of lines of abstract text spoken against colorful, shifting harmonies, creating an aura only possible from the most diligent painters of sound. The Passacaglia is a chromatic journey that blossoms into a rich study in timbre, and the Sarabande features brilliant tone groupings and uniquely modern polyphony.

Shaw For The (Pulitzer) Win!

I love to hear a young female composer win anything; so much the better when that composer is as talented as Shaw, the award is the Pulitzer, and the work is as well performed as this.

eloquent, award-winning, and accessible!

I'm going to have to start following the Pulitzer committee's twitter feed. This was a real find!

I loved it.

This music _needs_ to be a sound track. Caroline, hollywood is calling! I'm picturing Part IV as a "fever dream" sequence in an intellectual independent film.
