In 2022, Jay Wheeler made a profound musical statement with the artistically diverse album Emociones. Evidently, the Puerto Rican singer wasn’t done with the record’s rich genre-hopping world-building, as this half-hour-long complement bears out over the course of its nine additional tracks. From the echoey “Intro” and the similarly balladic “Te La Dedico” to the decidedly more club-centric moments of “Xexo” and the thumping “Trampa,” the EP continues his mission of playing a variety of styles while concurrently retaining his identity. His emboldened choices take him to interesting places, alongside Luar La L, Dei V, and Hades66 on trap’s cutting edge for “Pacto” and full-throatedly into the English-language pop space on “For You,” the latter a measured dismissal of an ex-lover.
