P.J. Pacifico writes bright folk and pop songs that explode with hooks in all the right spots. “Fold Up Your Heart” sounds like an Evan Dando song. It has the same straight-to-the-point arrangement that made the Lemonheads such perfect power-poppers. “Heads Up” traces the sensitive approach of Duncan Sheik all while retaining Pacifico’s own polished demeanor. Pacifico had worked hard on these tunes at home in Connecticut and married his long-time girlfriend. The acoustic backing of “Home With Me” makes for a mature folk-pop tune that explores his relationship in quick time. His joy is palpable throughout the album. “Lakeshore Drive” has a James Taylor vibe. “As Soon As I Can,” “Waiting” and “New Song” sound like songs birthed in coffee shops where everyone can react to each word. The immediacy and intimacy is real. These are songs to file and remember. They grow with each listen and likely remind listeners of events in their own lives.
