With the departure of drummer Longineu "LP" Parsons in early 2014, Yellowcard lost their last founding member. They're also on a new label and more than a decade removed from their biggest hit, "Ocean Avenue." Their response: reinvent themselves. In contrast to the pop-punk Yellowcard made their name with, Lift a Sail is ambitious alt-rock. With its wailing guitar and soaring chorus, "Transmission Home" is more 30 Seconds to Mars than Blink-182, and the palm-muted riffs and bracing tempo of "My Mountain" nod to Foo Fighters. Epitomizing the new sound is the single "One Bedroom," a churning ballad featuring drum machines and acoustic guitars.
