10 Songs, 45 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Eight years since their last commercially available studio album (2005's Painted On), The Fabulous Thunderbirds return with the most concise and focused album of their career. Though the brainchild of singer/harmonica player Kim Wilson, The T-Birds have also served as a launchpad or a steady gig for a number of notable guitarists, from Jimmy Vaughan to Duke Robillard to Nick Curran. In 2013, it's Johnny Moeller and Mike Keller providing the twin-guitar weave while Randy Bermudes and Jay Moeller handle the bass and drums, respectively. "Runnin' from the Blues" adds a touch of an island breeze to its danceable R&B grooves. "Diamonds Won't Kiss You Back" provides a touch of uptown horns. "I Want to Believe" throws a funky electric piano into the Memphis vibe. "Hold Me" works up a smooth Stax ballad. These experienced veterans know all the moves of Memphis, New Orleans, Texas, and Chicago. With this solid lineup of songs, everything comes together like an album by a great band should.
