Ratings and Reviews
A boldly artistic metal manifesto...
Witherfall self-identify as “dark melodic progressive metal.” They are certainly all of those things, and probably a few more. Of the many musical statements made in the 47-minute manifesto that is Nocturnes and Requiems, the clearest of all is that only virtuosos were allowed through the studio door.
I was familiar with the my-name-is-Legionesque quality of Joseph Michael’s vocals. Likewise, Jacob Dreyer’s guitar playing has always reminded me of a mushroom cloud – a stunningly beautiful thing to behold, even as it levels everything in its path. The combination of these two talents, as a songwriting team, took me by even more surprise than I expected it would. The end result reminds me of an article I once read about how you can make a bomb by mixing everyday household items together.
The title of the record proved to be a sadly prescient suggestion from drummer Adam Sagan, who passed away just before the release. He certainly went out with a bang, though… dozens of bangs per minute, really.
Witherfall is Awesome
I discovered this band when Joseph Michael stepped in for the vocals for Sanctuarys Warrel Dane Tour Rip. I love melodic metal and Witherfall hits the mark on vocals and guitars. I found my new favorite band Witherfall Rules!
Great record!
Such a great first record from the band. The guitars are amazing! The vocals have the sound I love. Not a bad moment the entire record. Look forward to more from this band.
