On their third album, Frozen Soul crank up the intensity on their chilly blend of old-school death metal and horror-movie guitar melodies. As the bells toll on the opening track, vocalist Chad Green implores the listener to “rise to your feet,” a call to arms that invokes both the image of the disinterred zombie and the rising-up of the oppressed to challenge the oppressor. In an unexpected twist, the song gets a boost via an unrecognizable cameo from My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way. The guest shots continue on “Invoke War,” a Bolt Thrower-meets-Obituary slammer featuring Machine Head’s Robb Flynn, and the churning, serpentine “Dreadnought” with Sanguisugabogg’s Devin Swank. Not to be outdone, the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it “Absolute Zero” takes an anti-ICE stance in under a minute.
