Isn’t Anything’s unstable combination of gentle and ferocious elements is the key to this innovation. Even on songs as assaultive as “Feed Me with Your Kiss” or the Sonic Youth-worthy “Sueisfine,” the band’s knack for psych-pop melodies, along with Bilinda Butcher and Kevin Shields’ blissed-out vocals, is somehow strong enough to weather Shields’ constantly surging maelstrom of reverb, effects, and feedback.
