Grow The Nanobots

This album is my TMBG nightmare.
“bUt WaIt! YoU gAvE iT fOuR sTaRs!” I hear you saying. Well I gave it four stars because of one song in particular: Sleep.
You see, this album is TMBG trying as hard as they possibly can to despair the popularity of Fingertips with these fever-dream short songs. Some are catchy and bizarre, like Hive Mind and Tick, but then again, most of them are just around fifty seconds long and just...boring. I’m rather fond of songs like Stone Cold Coup D’etat and Call You Mom paying homage to their beginning works like Ana Ng and I Palindrome I, but all of these are trying way too hard to be like what fans enjoyed back in the nineties. Some good did come out of it, but not much, and most of it just ended up being a mess. Now let’s talk about Sleep.
At first glance, it’s not much, and it’s really only forty seconds. However, the language is subtle, and the song is pretty good on its own, but what they could fit in forty revives my confidence in the modern-day works they produce. It really set the stage for Phone Power. So that’s the main reason I still like this album. Although most of it is a mess, I managed to fish a few gems out and have a good time listening to it.
