My Shit Is Perfect

My Shit Is Perfect

Consider the masked marauder of bastardized blues as two entities — one live and the other recorded. Obviously certain stage novelties like his one-man-band antics and audience participation are performances meant for the eyes more than the earbuds. But in the studio, adding innovative concepts to an age-old formula is what becomes Bob Log III the recording artist. His fourth studio album kickstarts on a foot stomping, lo-fi blues rocker. “Godd*m Sounds Good” recalls vintage Beck with slide guitar, hand clapping rhythms and vocals that sound like they’re coming from an old walkie-talkie. The throttle opens up on the faster “Mr. Sis Boom Bah,” a hyper hand-jive paced number rooted in fast pickin’ acoustic blues with breakneck arpeggios that keep up with speedy muted drumming and rapid vocal phrasing. Things get boiler-room weird in a Tom Waits junkshop style with “Bang Your Thing At the Ball,” a tipsy tune with scattered rhythms and detuned acoustic blues leads played on strings slacked to buzz randomly against the fretboard. My S**t Is Perfect would make a perfect soundtrack to a Hunter S. Thompson-inspired road trip.
