20 Songs, 1 Hour 2 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

In 2015, progressive electronic producer Alejandro Ghersi is best known for his client list, which includes Kanye West (Yeezus), Björk (Vulnicura) and the R&B chimera FKA twigs (EP2). Listening to his sophomore album, you can see what they liked. Dark, chilly, abstract and atmospheric but grounded by a visceral sense of rhythm, Mutant wobbles around like a creature that’s just fallen from space. Its best moments—the fractured interlude “Vanity” or quasi-industrial “Soichiro”—seem to abide by their own laws of physics, splintering under invisible pressure.

If you're on the fence.....

I wasn't sure wether to buy this. I loved Xen, but I wasn't really in the mode for deconstructed bombastic chaos. However, I bought it intending to give it a listen, then shelf
It. Well.
This record is BEAUTIFUL. It's really undeniably gorgeous. The progress he's made in just over a year is literally staggering. These songs have so much more character, dynamic, their more smoothly put together, and the synth patches and melodies KILL.
BUY THIS RECORD. It's well, well worth it. I'd say better than "oneohtrix point never's" garden of delete, (though that is also an EXCELLENT album not to be missed) a bit more smoothly delivered, and a much less dark vision. I stand by this one. Really, really great stuff. If you liked "Xen," you'll love this even more.

Arca is back...

Just a year after his debut album, Arca comes back with another project. By the singles 'En' and 'Soichiro', you can already tell MUTANT is gonna be much more beat-oriented. By the artwork, you can assume it's gonna be a lot darker too.

2015 has been such a busy year, and we are blessed to get another Arca project too!

Interesting

It has a weird, perplexing, horrible, noisy, awful, amazing, beautiful, pretty, wonderful, magical rhythm. I like it.
