EDITORS’ NOTES

This 1973 album (the band’s seventh) is the last to feature the original lineup of The Alice Cooper Group. Because the band were splitting apart, there’s a palpable tension here that pushes the tunes in great ways, particularly on the self-questioning “Never Been Sold Before” where prostitution is a fame metaphor wrapped in a wonderful Stones-y hybrid of brass-tinged soul and hip-swinging rock ’n’ roll. There are classic Cooper-esque twists on great Hollywood (“Man with the Golden Gun,” with Liza Minnelli, The Pointer Sisters, and Ronnie Spector on backing vocals) and old Broadway (“Crazy Little Child”). The album also features guitarist Dick Wagner, Alice’s future partner-in-song.

Last of the Original AC Band

Open the cover of the original album and its the AC band dressed as drunk sailor coming out of a bar. Crazy Little Child sounds like some sleezy stripper music from some cheep strip club back in the 70's. As a young soldier I hit my fare share of these places. I truly love the original AC Band but this is my least favorite of the original bands recording after "Pretties for You". "Teenage Lament 74" is not correct here. Its playing "No More Mr Nice Guy". "Musle of Love" is playing "Billion Dollar Babies". Come on Itunes lets get it right!!!! Never Been Sold Before is very original AC rock, "Big Apple Dreaming" is a classic that never got the attention it deserved. As for "Man with the Golden Gun" Its understandable why it did not get selected as the movie sound track. You have to buy it because it was the last original AC band recording.

As Alice as you wanna be

Workin' up a sweat is as dirty as you wanna be and Teenage Lament '74 is as clean as you wanna be.... Anyone who doesn't know what I'm talkin' 'bout should look elsewhere.

A good farewell to the Alice Cooper group

This was the original band Alice Cooper's last album. When it was released in 1973, the vinyl came in a cardboard box for the jacket. Most of the songs are good, and I would say it is essential, mostly because its the groups last. Highlights: Big apple dreamin, Never been sold, Workin up a sweat, the title track, teenage lament, and Woman Machine.
