Monuments to an Elegy is considered the second “album within an album” of the Teargarden by Kaleidyscope opus. The 2012 set Oceania and the forthcoming Day for Night are considered the other pieces of this Billy Corgan–constructed puzzle. Only Corgan, guitarist Jeff Schroeder, and drummer-for-hire Tommy Lee of Mötley Crüe perform on this nine-song, 32-minute album; it was produced by Corgan, Schroeder, and Howard Willing (who first worked with the Pumpkins on the Adore sessions). For Corgan, this is the tightest collection he’s presented, with the synthetically enhanced “Run2me” the only song to break the four-minute mark.
