After surviving two bouts with cancer, enigmatic rock en español poet Draco Rosa returns with his first studio album in five years, recorded mostly in his Puerto Rico studio. The veteran singer is in back-to-basics mode on Monte Sagrado, performing ragged rock ’n’ roll anthems that flirt with blues and grunge, and meditating on darkness and salvation. Backed by a solid rhythm section, Rosa opens up his sound with the majestic orchestral drama of a bonus track hidden inside “En las Horas Más Tristes.” It makes for a tour de force of melancholy moods, the music drowned in sadness and furious riffs.
