Trinidadian soprano Jeanine De Bique’s career is on the ascent in 2021 and Mirrors, her debut album, demonstrates just why. Her warm, expressive voice and appealing personality come across beautifully on this cleverly programmed album. Here, she explores characters who have been given musical life by different Baroque composers. So, alongside Handel’s Rodelinda, Alcina, and Cleopatra, we encounter them presented from different angles—by Graun, Broschi, and Telemann—to great effect. De Bique’s vivid characterization and lovely voice are a joy, and Concerto Köln are terrific partners. A superb debut album, full of promise for a glittering future.
