EDITORS’ NOTES

Mount Moriah's music is essentially the magic that happens between singer Heather McEntire and guitarist Jenks Miller, who met through the University of North Carolina music scene. Together, they're kids who were born to run but often chronicle the lonely days of young outsiders in small towns. Mount Moriah's second album, Miracle Temple, is also its debut for the label Merge, and from the opening melody of "Younger Days," it's apparent it's a good match. McEntire hopes that with August finally over, a relationship will be resumed along with college studies and general campus life. "Bright Light" kicks into a Rolling Stones–like bump. "I Built a Town," "Union Street Bridge," and "Those Girls" speak to lonely souls in the hot, steamy South, where McEntire acts out her role as Dusty Springfield—or it is Bobbie Gentry?—and aligns herself with the outcasts who just wish everything would melt away. Still, McEntire never attempts anything too brash; understatement is her key.
