A Remarkable and Inspiring Work
With lyrics taken from and inspired by the Biblical book of Malachi, Anna Connelly's Messenger is a shining example of how music can bring new insight to a written work - in this case, an oft-neglected but vitally important one. Connelly is an equally gifted composer and storyteller, and in her capable hands the lyrics and music work masterfully together to bring the story of the piece to life. David Clydesdale's rich orchestration adds a depth and magnitude reminiscent of an epic film score, and all three soloists are perfectly suited to their characters, lending an emotional authenticity to the narrative. All in all, Messenger is a remarkable and inspiring work; and hopefully, much like the message it delivers, it is a sign of even greater things still to come.
This is truly amazing. The composition of the music is impeccable. The orchestra is like butter. The voices are so clear and crisp. The message of messenger is inspiring and eye opening. I'm just sad it's only 12 minutes. I hope there's more to come.
