Whoa ...

Night Beds have let loose one of the most interesting records of the year. Ivywild is an album that truly challenges, captivates, and provokes the listener. The group has made a drastic 180 degree turn from the warm folk sound they established on their debut Country Sleep. Here is an eclectic and unique fusion of ambient electronica, modern R&B, and experimental hip-hop. Yellen brilliantly jumbles colors and textures, eschewing a traditional sonic palette as well as traditional song structure, making for, at times, a very difficult but always rewarding listening experience. Even his voice is often masked, twisted, and manipulated as if it were another synthesizer in the mix. The musical nakedness of Country Sleep is gone but the earnestness and emotional resonance remains in a ballsy and fierce follow-up.

I'm so bummed.. Why.

If you liked them for their sound on previous albums/EPs, well that's gone. My husband and I loved this band and have waited for this album to drop, only to be so so disappointed. They have strayed from that original, absolutely stunning sound they once had. This sounds like an attempt to become more mainstream, and it's an awful step in the wrong direction for old fans who are not going to stick around for this new sound. I know we aren't. So bummed out about this album..
