EDITORS’ NOTES

The Scud Mountain Boys began simply as "the Scuds," a punk rock band out of western Massachusetts. But they soon took a stylistic about-face, which involved inverting their punk sound into quiet acoustic moments. Featuring bandleader Joe Pernice, later of the Pernice Brothers, they weren't really hillbilly punks, but rather pop aficionados eager to mix the melodic cues of Pure Prairie League and Bread with their pickin' and grinnin', all of which completed a startling transformation that placed them on the leading edge of the alt-country movement. Key tracks: "Knievel," Glass Jaw," Massachusetts"

Eagles, but gun in mouth

The Scuds really dribbled the ball out of the park with this one. Every track will wheedle its way into your life and find its appropriate place in the soundtrack of your life. You'll even re-live bits of your past life and insert this as the score. Not kidding. Classic stuff. Really.

A Lost Classic

This is the melody of heartbreak and longing, where beauty meets despair. A true gem of an album, from the opening lines to the soft soaring crescendo of Knievel. This is an album that will sound good the first time, and only grow stronger each time you listen. Definitely a lost classic.

Awsome!

I purchased this CD new in 96 on a whim when I was 19. It has never left my collection since. Joe Pernice is the most underated writer we have today. Do yourself a favor and give this a chance.
