Magic Pocket

I haven't given anybody 5 stars in years. But this is seriously good stuff. How good? I've listened to it maybe ten times and I'm not tired of it. That's a rarity in my experience with music over the last decade. Lyrics, music, musicianship come together like they must in any really good project. I hear some Steely Dan in here, but there's much more to it than that. Easily worth the ten bucks.

Bill Belknap ,

The Bassist

Bill Belknap is a genuine Tulsa soul man. Known for years as the driving force behind Oklahoma’s Andy Gravity and Tulsa to L.A. popsters 20/20, Bill stands in front on this, his first solo release. The tracks on his new record, “Magic Pocket”, are each and every one a powerful testament to the deepness of his pocket and the righteousness of his groove. His vocals are dipped in blue eyed soul with more than a little T-Town twang. If JJ Cale and Steely Dan had a illegitimate love child and left him on the door step of Longbranch studio in North Tulsa, his name would be Bill Belknap.

Producer and 20/20 Drummer Makes Good!

You may know him as the drummer for the Power Pop band 20/20 or you may know him from his studio work but either way, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the journey this album takes you on. Songs range from a World Music vibe to Blues to hints of Steely Dan. My favorite track is “In Her Eyes” but there is much to love on Magic Pocket. What took you so long to step out from behind the drum kit Bill? ;-)
