EDITORS’ NOTES

There’s something delightful about the way ILOVEMAKONNEN opens M3, a compact major-label return some three years after the sixth volume in his fabulous Drink More Water series. The bluesy guitar licks, light synth touches, and popwise croon of “Liquid Supply Daily” almost immediately recall the bittersweet and wondrous “I’ve Been Waiting,” the posthumous Lil Peep hit on which he was featured so prominently. Still determined to keep his fans hydrated, the erstwhile OVO act and emo rap progenitor gets way in his feelings on the universally relatable “I’m Not Ok” and the effervescently lit “Drunk on Saturday,” the latter a spiritual sequel of sorts to his breakthrough single “Club Goin' Up on a Tuesday.”
