EDITORS’ NOTES

High on Fire show off their years of experience melting faces and terrifying eardrums with Luminiferous, an album whose sole intent is to crush listeners under the weight of its unfathomably dense guitar riffage and pummeling drums. If you can make it through monumental ragers like “Carcosa” and the loud-quiet-loud torture of “The Cave” all the way to closer “The Lethal Charmer,” you’ll either feel like a heavy metal god, or like you’ve been slain by one.

Possessed by Metal

I’m 45 years old, liked early Metallic, Pantera, some others, but that’s about it for metal. I discovered HOF last night and just finished listening to the last three albums. This is the biggest music revelation I had in 15 years. I was listening with headphones and I was afraid a black hole was going to form between my ears. I listened on my full system at medium volume and worried the floor was going to start rippling and a portal to hell was going to open. HOF is Rush granted special Metal powers by Satan.

It's High On Fire

Tuneful singing from Pike, especially on The Falconist, which has a chorus straight out of early 80s Ozzy. Another great collection of songs, plenty of crushing riffs, and even a ballad (sort of). Probably their most accessible record, still managing to please the fans that have been with them since the beginning.
