Storyline

Hunter Hayes’ self-titled 2011 debut left no doubt that he was one of Nashville's most prodigiously talented artists—the 22-year-old played all the instruments on that GRAMMY®-nominated effort. Hayes also cowrote all the songs on his second long-player, Storyline, but it calls on members of his touring band (including groundbreaking pedal steel player Paul Franklin) to fill things out. The result is a sleekly produced collection of modern country that alternates driving, radio-ready hooks and sensitive ballads. Hayes’ taste for traditional instrumentation (fingerpicked guitar, mandolin, and banjo) gives rousing songs like “Flashlight” and “Storyline” a traditionalist bent, while ballads like “Still Fallin” and “Invisible” are climactic, lushly produced highlights.
