EDITORS’ NOTES

"I wanted to rediscover the way I originally began producing music 22 years ago,” Calvin Harris tells Apple Music. “Before I ever thought about how it might be perceived by outside forces, just pure fun and experimentation with what sounded good to me.” That journey led the star DJ/producer to a vault of vintage house and techno records that shaped the heyday of rave culture in the early ’90s, a sound Harris says he was "obsessed with” growing up in Dumfries, Scotland, before he became the king of main-stage dance-pop crossovers. Under a new alias, Love Regenerator, he presents two transportive, underground-inspired tracks: the soulful piano house cut “Hypnagogic (I Can’t Wait)” and the spiraling and progressive “CP-1,” each with its own inventive remix. "In fact, I’ve done everything I can to make them sound like they’ve come from a 1991 time capsule,” he says. “Every synth and sound used is from that time period.”

Back to the future

EDM is dead, and Calvin Harris is going back to the 90’s to draw some inspiration and blow some new life into an otherwise stifled genre. The result feels fresh, modern, and dance-y! Just what I needed right now. Please, Adam/Calvin, keep up the great work and drop more tracks like these.

The One Star Reviews Are Ignorant

Don’t listen to the ignorance from the reviews that gave this one star, this is where EDM came from. This is Rave, real music from the 90’s and now it’s back and as always it is ear candy. Hope Rave comes back and hope Calvin gives us more of this. This is where he come from, this is his roots and I love it.
