EDITORS’ NOTES

Uniting two of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's finest recordings, Love and Devotion gives the legend’s undulating six-octave range an opportunity to celebrate romantic and religious ecstasy in one place. Accompanied simply by harmonium, handclaps, tabla, and his backing vocalists, Khan brings unparalleled depth and passion to these performances. The call-and-response vocals and rollicking tempo shifts of "Haq Ali Ali Haq" bring to mind a Sufi James Brown. Elsewhere, the romantic Punjabi ghazal "Sanson Ki Mala Pey" feels celebratory and sensual at the same time.

Stunning sounds.

This album is one of my favorites of my life. It will take you places you have never been if you let go into it. Transcendent and uplifting, I marvel at the energy it has in it.
