Writer/director/composer John Carpenter is the auteur behind such b-movie classics as Halloween, The Thing, and Big Trouble in Little China. His "Halloween Theme" is one of the most recognizable pieces of music in cinema. While Lost Themes is the 67-year-old visionary's first studio album, fans of his work will find these songs instantly familiar. Carpenter's hallmarks are all here: screeching analog synths, ominous arpeggios, gaseous clouds of spooky noise. The harrowing "Obsidian" is a mini-movie in itself, and "Purgatory" gets especially weird with its live drums and hammered pianos. The remixes apply this sonic palette to various techno and dubstep beats.
