Live from the Damn Near Normal Tour

A Koe Wetzel show must be seen to be believed, but this 13-track collection of performances from the rough-and-tumble country star’s Damn Near Normal Tour is still a potent listen for those looking to enjoy Wetzel’s electric live energy at home. Pulling from three shows—two in Wetzel’s home state of Texas—the set leans heavily on his 2024 album 9 Lives while tossing in some fan favorites for good measure. The collection opens with “Twister,” a riff-laden rocker worthy of Wetzel’s winking lyrical admission of being “half-cocked insane.” The energy stays at a 10 from there and doesn’t let up, with the driving and melodic “9 Lives (Black Cat)” leading into the grungy “April Showers.” Other highlights of the set include a spirited take on 2016 Noise Complaint favorite “February 28, 2016,” which serves as a reminder of Wetzel’s near-decade journey to his current stardom, and a raw rendition of “Austin,” appropriately performed at UT Austin’s famed Moody Center.
