It don't get much better than this

This is the real deal. Rough and raw and furious clawhammer banjo.

Great songs, bad voice

While Clarence undoubtedly represents the back woods folk singer well, his voice leaves something to be desired. It is a little too nasal ,even for folk singing, and that is saying something. The songs on this album are classic folk songs, most of which tell beautiful and heartbreaking stories, but the vocal execution mars their bittersweet beauty. Naomi Wise ,or Little Omie Wise, as it is sometimes called, is one of my favorite folk songs but I am too distracted by the nasality of Clarence's voice to listen to the words. I have to say that you should look to other artists to get your fix of folk.

If you can't take the heat.....

Beautiful songs and melodies. One hundred years of history on twenty tracks.
